Dolley and James Madison’s Montpelier is finally restored and ready for company. Even though it has been open all through the $24 million restoration project, visitors can now imagine the Madisons enjoying retirement in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Layers of history have been peeled back and documents and photos have helped answer the questions about what life was like during the early 1800’s. There is a Visitor Center and galleries that display the treasures of the Madison family.
Lunch will be at Palladio, the premier restaurant at Barboursville Vineyards which is also a historic site. The architect of Barboursville Plantation was Thomas Jefferson, one of only 3 residences he designed for his friends. There will be a tour and wine tasting after lunch.
Do not miss this opportunity to visit a piece of history and enjoy a delicious lunch in a beautiful fall setting.
