Holidays at the James River Plantations
Wednesday, December 7, 2011

Step back into a festive holiday time when visiting the 17th and 18th century plantation homes of two icons of Virginia society. The first home will be Shirley Plantation owned by the Carter family since 1660 and continues to operate through 11 generations working and running this colonial plantation. Decorated for the holidays Shirley Plantation will show –off its fine silver, decorative arts and its unique flying staircase, the only one of its kind in America.

A full course lunch will be served at the Charles City Tavern in the heart of Virginia's Plantation country. This historic farmhouse was built in 1889 and continues to be a 2,000 acre working farm.

Berkeley Plantation, the elegant 1776 home of generations of Harrisons will be beautifully decorated with fresh greens from the Berkeley gardens. Costumed guides will tell four centuries of special stories of holiday traditions at Berkeley Plantation.

Sign up early, bring a friend and do not miss this opportunity to visit colonial Virginia during the holiday season.
