Sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful fall foliage on the Western Scenic Railroad's "Mountain Thunder", a 1913 Baldwin steam engine. This historic train will travel from Cumberland, Maryland to Frostburg, Maryland negotiating Narrows Gorge, climbing Big Savage Mountain, and passing through 914-foot-long Brush Tunnel. This is a 32 mile round trip adventure with an exciting mix of mountain scenery and enlightening railroad history. Lunch will be served in the first class dining car and there is a ninety minute layover in the town of Frostberg. Here the Thrasher Carriage Museum is certainly worth a visit and costumed guides will tell stories of the elegant traveler from Victorian America.
This is a unique fall trip not be missed, a combination of extraordinary fall color, a delicious lunch, and stories of interesting mountain transportation history.
